It’s time to check in with my favourites for the month of May. I’ve got lots of different favourites this month from the speaker that is rocking my world (and the album I’ve been playing most lately) to the beauty treat making my self-care time a little more indulgent and the delicious food I’ve been wanting most in this cold wintery weather…
In the last month I discovered the amazing world of Frank Body Coffee Scrubs and I’m addicted. I’ve been wanting to try these for a long time and I admit I was ultimately drawn in by the now-famous Shimmer Scrub. I ended up buying the Shimmer and the Original Coffee Scrub and I’m in love. They can be a bit messy so I highly recommend staying in the shower (water off) while you scrub up and wait the couple of minutes it takes for that divine coffee to do its thing then rinse off. I also picked up the Frank Body Lip Scrub, a good lip scrub is a necessity if you want to wear long lasting matte lipstick on a regular basis and want smooth lips as a base. This one smells amazing and doesn’t feel too abrasive while still doing a good job of getting lipstick remnants and any flaky bits off my lips. So good! I also really love that these are natural products and don’t contain any nasties.
Another natural product I tried and love recently is the rms beauty Lip2Cheek in Smile which is a cream blush/lip colour in a little pot. I find the colour really bright and I only need a really small amount to get a nice flush of colour on my cheeks, this little pot will last a very long time! It lasts really well on my cheeks, a lot better than some other cream blushes I’ve used, I’ve been really impressed with the quality of this product and it’s become my everyday blush.
The new eyeshadow I’ve been reaching for almost every day has been the NARS Eyeshadow Duo in Kalahari. I love the colours of these brown and gold eyeshadows (perfect for green eyes) and they are subtle enough to wear daily but buildable for a more nighttime look. The compact they come in is also really slim so it would be perfect for travel as you would only need these two colours to create a few different looks!
In my efforts to reduce the amount of plastic I’m using and waste I’m creating (check out my War On Waste recap if you want to find out more about why I’m doing this) I decided to try out Honeybee beeswax wraps as a cling wrap alternative. I have to admit that initially I was pretty sceptical about how well they could actually work but they work so well and I actually prefer them to cling wrap for most things! I’ve got more on these wraps and some other zero-waste swaps I’m making in my daily life coming up in a post next week so keep an eye out for that.
I’ve been putting off getting a Bluetooth speaker for a long time but I’ve wanted one for ages. I finally got myself one and I chose the UE Wonderboom Bluetooth speaker and I love it. It’s super handy for when I’m cleaning the house or wandering around doing things and want to listen to a podcast or music. It’s waterproof as well which means I can take it into the bathroom when I’m having a shower or bath and I don’t need to worry about the steam or water in the bathroom. The sound is great and I love how little and portable it is. Plus if you buy more than one you can connect them to each other and have two speakers going at once!
Eating and drinking
Now that it is well into the cold Canberra autumn/winter period I have been living on soup. I have made a huge batch of soup at least once a week (if not more), eat it for lunches or dinners and freeze the rest in individual portion sizes. My absolute favourites are my Potato and Leek Soup and my Minestrone Soup. They are both so delicious, incredibly filling and warming, and are quite budget friendly.
My addiction to tea is in full swing now, especially after giving up coffee and turning tea into a night-time ritual. My favourites right now are T2 Canberra Breakfast (it’s like an Anzac biscuit in a cup of tea!) and T2 Sweet Dreams which is an amazing way to unwind and get ready for bedtime. To support my tea drinking habit I’ve also purchased a tea flask as an easy way to drink my loose leaf tea at work as well as being able to take my tea ‘to-go’ if I need to.
Watching and listening
If you’ve been keeping up with me on Facebook or Instagram, or checked out this post last week, you’ll know that I’ve been a bit obsessed with the three-part War On Waste series on ABC. I’ve been increasingly interested in the zero waste and plastic-free movement for a while and this series just reaffirmed some things I already knew and heightened my enthusiasm and commitment for waste reduction in my life. I’m excited to start implementing more zero waste options into my daily life and I’ve got a post coming up next week with some easy swaps I’ve made so far. And if you haven’t watched War On Waste yet, you can still watch all three episodes on ABC iview.
I never thought I would say this but the album I’ve been listening to most this month has been Harry Styles’ self-titled album. I didn’t particularly like One Direction so I imagined that his album would be more of the same but it’s sooo good. He has a real rock vibe that I love and the songs are fantastic. My faves are Meet Me in the Hallway, Kiwi, Only Angel, From the Dining Table, Ever Since New York… okay, all of the tracks really. If you’re a bit hesitant because of the One Direction connection I’d definitely encourage you to just listen to the album and see what you think. I’m sure you’ll love it as much as I do.
If you’re ever interested in what songs I’m currently listening to and loving, you can always check out my ‘loving now’ playlist on Spotify.
Those are my favourites for the month of May! What have you been loving in the last month?
