It’s time for my July Favourites and despite my shopping ban I’ve got some great products to share with you this month (one of them was actually a result of breaking my shopping ban… whoops!) including the perfume that has had more comments in the last month than any other perfume I’ve ever worn!
I’m very beauty products heavy this month but I’ve also got some food and drink (my go-to drink this month is a must try!!) and some random bits and pieces that are making me very happy at the moment.
So let’s get into my favourites for July!
If you’ve been reading lately or following me on Instagram you’ll know that I’m all about the natural beauty these days and I’ve switched my base over to the Inika Organics Certified Organic BB Cream in Beige and I’m loving it. It’s a really rich cream and has decent coverage for a BB cream but not so much that it feels unnatural. I have a lot of freckles and I hate it when my foundation covers them up because I don’t feel like I look like myself without them plus it just doesn’t look particularly natural. I’m all about makeup enhancing not covering up so this is a great option for me. I’ve found that my skin doesn’t have as many issues as it did when I was using other bases as my skin feels like it can still breathe and isn’t spending a large portion of the day covered up by skin-stressing ingredients. If you’re looking to switch your base over to a natural option and like a medium to light coverage I’d recommend that you give this one a try.
When I went to the opening weekend events of the Canberra Centre’s new Beauty Precinct I received some lovely little goodie bags and was so thrilled to find this Mecca Cosmetica Raspberry Lip De-Luscious SPF25 Lip Protectant in there! It’s a really lovely pink hue on the lips and I am just so in love with the rose gold packaging of the lid. It’s fairly moisturising and I really like the fact that it has SPF as lips are often overlooked when it comes to sun protection. The hint of pink is perfect for when I’m not feeling like wearing lipstick or if I’m having a no-makeup day. It’s a great addition to my handbag collection of lip balms and glosses!
I’m a big fan of eyeliner on me and I’ve been using the Jane Iredale liquid eyeliner as a natural alternative to my much-loved Stila eyeliner and it holds up really well. I find the brush really easy to work with and it lasts all day long which are two must-haves for me with liquid liner. I actually find liquid liner quite easy to apply and I like how it looks on me so I was pleased to find a new one I like so much. I would say that the colour payoff isn’t quite as great as some other liners I’ve used so it can need a couple of layers if you’re putting it on over a lot of eyeshadow to ensure that the blackness really comes through. But I do like that sometimes it creates a really subtle liquid line that picks up the colours of the shadow underneath, particularly if I’m wearing a nice coppery or bronzey shade, the effect is really nice!
Adding to my natural collection of makeup is the Tata Harper Very Bronzing which has been my go-to bronzer/contour of late. It’s a really nice and not too shimmery bronzer which is super easy to apply and blend. I use it for a little contour under my cheekbones and also use it swiped over my eyelids for a subtle hint of colour when I’m going for a natural or low maintenance makeup look. It’s on the expensive side but I love the quality and the colour and it will last for a very long time!
During the opening weekend of the new Mecca Maxima in Canberra I broke my shopping ban and picked up a few things (very naughty!) and one of them was a new perfume: Escentric Molecule Escentric 01. I’ve been eyeing off this perfume for almost a year now and after finally getting the chance to test it out on myself in person I just knew I needed it. I adore the scent and since wearing it I’ve had multiple people stop me to ask what perfume I’m wearing because they liked the scent so much. It’s a really unusual scent with woody undertones (I think the Molecule 01 version is more floral scented), and it’s supposed to react with your pheromones to create a scent that’s unique to you which I love! I’m so happy that I picked it up because I just love the smell of it.
The aspect of my beauty routine I am without a doubt laziest with is moisturising my body. I hate the feeling of thick lotion on my hands and I especially hate waiting around in the cold of my bathroom during Canberra winters for my moisturiser to absorb enough for me to get dressed which is why I was excited to try out the Born Again Body Hydrating Skin Tonic*, a spray moisturiser, which is great for a couple of reasons. Firstly I don’t have to rub anything in and get it all over my hands and secondly it absorbs really quickly! I usually spray it on my arms and legs after I dry myself off after my morning shower and by the time I’ve finished the rest of my skincare routine, it’s absorbed and I can get dressed without worrying about getting moisturiser everywhere. I love the smell of it, it’s so lovely and even better is that Born Again Body are a natural beauty brand! Definitely my kind of product!
Food and Drink Favourites
I’ve been drinking chai lattes for a couple of years now and I just love good quality chai. While I was wandering around the Old Bus Depot Markets (a must visit destination if you come to Canberra!) a few months ago I was intrigued by the Real Chai products and gave the Real Chai Chocolate Chai a try. Which I then promptly bought! This stuff is good proper chai, not the overly sugary powered stuff! It’s amazing and it’s actually a really relaxing process to simmer it away on the cooktop and have the delicious smells permeating through my kitchen. I make mine with soy milk and then add a little honey right at the end and it’s such a delicious little treat, definitely perfect for the very cold wintery weather we’ve been having here lately.
One of my favourite things about the I Quit Sugar program was discovering lots of surprisingly delicious I Quit Sugar 8 week program breakfast recipes. It’s been really nice to try lots of different new recipes, especially at breakfast which can quickly become boring for me as I have a tendency to eat the same thing every morning. It’s been nice figuring out what things I really like eating for breakfast and what fills me up the most. I’ve gotten into the habit of prepping my breakfast for the week as well as my lunches and eating my breakfast at work as I check my emails for the morning. It helps to streamline my morning a little more and means I get more time to run around and sort Grace in the morning (or a slightly longer sleep in on the days I don’t have her!) and am able to get myself organised and out of the house much quicker. My favourite easy to prepare ahead breakfasts have been ginger-spiced pear porridge and zucchini egg cups.
I’ve been using reusable coffee cups for a while and I’ve loved them so much more during Plastic Free July. Despite the fact that I don’t currently drink coffee, I still enjoy a hot drink when I’m out and these help me cut down on single use (disposable) coffee cups and the amount of waste I’m sending to landfill. I have three now, a large Joco glass cup that lives at my desk at work, a medium glass Keepcup that usually lives in my handbag and a small plastic Keepcup that lives in my car so I’m never caught out. If you don’t already have a reusable coffee cup I’d highly recommend it!
When the new Beauty Precinct opened at the Canberra Centre they had a The Daily Edited pop up shop with on site personalisation so I finally got myself a The Daily Edited monogrammed phone case which is something I’d been eyeing off for a very long time and I’m so happy with it! I got the plum with rose gold initials (and luckily my married and maiden last names start with the same letter!) and it’s just gorgeous. I was a bit hesitant about getting the phone case (I already have a TDE monogrammed clutch) which is why it took me so long to make up my mind about it but seeing it in person really made the decision easy because it’s gorgeous.
Those are my favourites for the month of July! What have you been loving in the last month?
