It’s hard to believe that we’re already coming to the end of January 2018, but I have to say that 2018 has started very well! I was very happy to see the back of 2017 and I’m so excited to see what’s in store in 2018.
And now that it is the end of January, I’ve got my January Favourites for you! This month is a mix of masks, lips and sunscreen in my beauty products; the books I loved most in January; and the two things that have made my morning yoga practice so much better.
I’ve been using The Body Shop Drops of Youth Bouncy Sleeping Mask most nights as the last step in my skincare routine and I’m loving it. It’s such a weird texture, it’s kind of jelly-like, and is a mask designed to be worn overnight (lazy skincare for the win). I find that it helps my skin look refreshed and helps me look more awake in the morning. It’s become an essential step in my skincare routine!
The other mask I’ve been using lately is the Frank Body Glow Mask. It’s a brightening mask that only needs 5 minutes. I find it’s perfect for mornings when I haven’t slept the best (or was a bit cheeky and stayed up too late) and because it’s so quick to use I generally put it on after I’ve finished my morning yoga and let it do its thing while I sit and have my cup of tea.
The one lip product I’ve been reaching for over any other in the last month or so has been my Frank Body Lip Tint in Cherry Bomb. In fact, I love it so much that I’ve just bought a second one because I’m fairly certain I’m about halfway through my first tube! It’s the perfect subtle red tint and is glossy and nourishing on the lips without being too sticky (I can’t stand a sticky lip gloss which is why I tend to avoid gloss). It looks gorgeous and smells delicious! I love that Frank Body is a natural brand so there are no nasty chemicals in this product (which is always a good thing with lip products because you end up with quite a lot of them unintentionally in your mouth). Definitely recommend trying this one out if you haven’t already!
I recently finished my tube of my favourite sunscreen and I quickly rushed out to buy a replacement. The Mecca Cosmetica To Save Face SPF 30 Mineral Gel Cream is by far my favourite facial sunscreen that I’ve used. I converted to physical/mineral sunscreens rather than chemical sunscreens on my face a little while ago. I like that they are more stable, they work straight away (as opposed to chemical ones that take 20 mins to work) and that you can apply it as the last stage in your skincare and before makeup. The gel texture makes it really nice to apply and it doesn’t feel too thick or heavy like a lot of sunscreens do. It has a slight peachy tint to it but I find that it disappears into the skin well and doesn’t leave my skin greasy or with a white caste which makes it close to a perfect sunscreen in my eyes. (Although if Zoe Foster-Blake manages to perfect her Go-To Skincare Sunscreen that she’s been working on, I’ll definitely be giving that one a try. She’s got high standards when it comes to sunscreen so I know if it’s good enough for her then I’ll most likely love it!)
The other sunscreen that I’ve been using every day on both me and Grace is We Are Feel Good Inc Signature Sunscreen Lotion SPF 50+. I do find that chemical sunscreen tends to be a bit better for the body and doing outdoor things like running around and going swimming! This one is Australian made and owned, free of nasties (parabens, oxybenzone, preservatives), and it goes on really nicely and disappears into the skin great. Even Grace really likes it which I think is a glowing endorsement if anyone has ever tried to put sunscreen on a toddler! That said, I put sunscreen on her every morning so I think she’s just accepted that daily sunscreen is a part of life. Neither of us have had any sunburn since we started using this sunscreen which is such a win, I’m so happy that I switched over to this sunscreen.
I feel like the holidays and the new year is always prime reading time! I’ve read a few books lately (and I usually put books I’m reading on my Instagram account if you’re ever curious as to what I’m reading right now) but these are the ones that really stuck out to me. The first one is The Barefoot Investor by Scott Pape, which I talked about a little bit in my recent money saving tips post. I highly recommend anyone read this book. It’s honestly helped me to get my head around my money and come up with a simple plan for managing my money which has been great. I feel way more in control of my money than I have in a long time and this book is the main reason for that.
The other two books have been focused on simple living. The first is Slow by Brooke McAlary and the second is The Year of Less by Cait Flanders. Both are memoir-ish and detail how simplifying your life gives you the tools to deal with every day life and especially when things get tough. Slow is much more of a kind of how-to than The Year of Less but I think they’re both really powerful and really helpful in learning the whys and hows of simplifying your life.
I’ve been doing yoga just about every morning so far this year and I’m loving it. The impact on my mental health is great, which is the main reason that I do it. I’m also finding I’m slowly getting more flexible which is a nice bonus. Doing yoga in the morning helps me to clear my mind and start the day off right. Plus it’s some time that’s just mine, doing something to take care of myself which can be somewhat of a rarity if you let it. I’m loving the Yoga with Adriene videos on Youtube. I find them really easy to work with and follow and I love that I can just do it in my lounge room in the mornings.
The other thing I’m particularly loving is my new yoga mat from Yin Yoga Mats. It’s sooo pretty and I love the way it feels. I was just using a cheapie exercise mat that I’d had for years and I hated the feel of it so I’m very happy with my little investment in a new mat that makes me very happy and makes doing my morning yoga practice just that little bit more enjoyable. The top of the mat is microfibre suede which feels amazing (and the more you sweat, the more you grip) and the bottom is recycled tree rubber bonded to the suede and are free from PVC, Silicone, and Phthalates. Plus they ship completely plastic free which is great. I’m so happy with it and while it might seem a little pricey for a yoga mat, I think it’s totally worth it!
Those are my favourites for January 2018! Have you used any of these products or read any of these books? What were your favourites for January?
Note: all products that appear on my blog were purchased by me (and I parted with my own hard earned money to buy them) unless I otherwise state that they were gifted.
