As much as I love the fashion (after all, it is fashion week), I absolutely adore seeing what the beauty trends are for the shows. There are always some really beautiful and really interesting hair and makeup looks for the shows.
This year there was a big focus on minimal makeup, natural beauty and glowy skin. There were a few pops of colour like the berry coloured lips in Steven Khalil’s show or the burgundy eyeshadow in Alice McCALL’s show – and an all-out rhinestone covered lip in the Zhivago show – but all in all my absolute favourite looks were the minimally made up looks.
These are some of my favourite looks from Fashion Week, along with some quotes on the looks from the makeup artists:
“Today we’re creating a modern provincial city girl, the look is very romantic… For the lips we’re going to create the look of a woman running through a field, and the wind hitting her face has made her look rosy. This is important because the rosy colour sits a bit lower on the face so that’s where we’ll apply the blush. The remaining product will just get pressed into the lips.”
“The look is all about the cool modern girl trapped in an old baroque traditional world. This is replicated on the face very much so because the lip is almost Elizabethan, it’s a stain, it’s quite painterly put on and it’s a beautiful rich berry tone which is symbolic of that time.”
“The look is a little bit rustic. A lot of work has been done with just blending in and moulding with fingers… We’ve done a really beautiful coppery-smokey, medium intensity eye… The skin has been left bare on most of the models but we made sure it looked really hydrated and luminous on all the high points of the face.”
“The thread that’s tying the look together through the eyes, cheeks and lips is a lipstick called Driftwood, which is a mauvey-nude. I’ve used this as the base of the eye shadow; it’s probably going to move around a bit which is what we want. I’ve also used it on the cheeks and lips, and it’s really muted that natural pink.”
“It’s a 90s, healthy, hotel in Miami, bombshells galore, decadence, supermodel, big hair. We’re going to use a lot of colour as well, so on the eyes it’s going to be a beautiful gilded eye. Beautiful mascara, gilded cheeks and then on the lips we’re using the Color Jolt covered in rhinestones.”
Hansen & Gretel
“Hansen & Gretel gave us the brief that they wanted a glowy look but using no illuminator, shimmer or highlighter – but it also couldn’t be matte. So we used our products that give the skin a natural glow… The hero product for this look is the Skin Perfector Oil, you can’t see the oil on the skin but once you put the foundation on it gives the skin a really beautiful natural glow.”
Active Collective Showcase
“The look for the Active show is definitely hyper-real, perfected skin, with beautiful luminous accents and highlights. The eyes are warm, bronze and smoky without too much intensity and for that we’ve used Total Bae Tone It in Hot to Trot which is a pressed, beautifully luminous powder.”
Bec & Bridge
“The collection is called ‘Meow Meow’ and we’ve got two different looks today, all very French, cool girl chic… The red lip look, we started the skin with our Face and Body Foundation. I asked everybody to put it on with their hands so it’s a seamless finish… With the lip it is the So Chaud Lipstick, the red Lip Pencil and the Pigment over the top. We’re leaving the brows natural and on the eyes using our Siss Lipstick, we’ve brushed it around so it has a soft tea-stain effect.”
We Are Kindred
“The look is really beautiful, glossy, glowy and luminous. We’re using lipstick on the eye, with lip gloss over the top. While this might not be entirely comfortable to wear, it looks amazing!… For the eyes we chose three colours that compliment the fabrics in the collection. There’s a peachy-pink, a golden bronze and a lilac – all of them are very iridescent – and with the lipstick, this creates a very pearlescent look.”
“The C/meo girl is all about being in love and on vacation. We’ve used a blush bronze cream look with a beautifully soft finish. It’s very Maybelline because we want to take her from the catwalk, to the sidewalk, to the plane and onto the holiday destination and this makeup should be very simple.”
“It’s a group show so the designers came to the decision that they wanted a really beautiful, natural, glowing look with a bronzy eye – so it looks amazing with each collection… The key products are moisturiser and oil mixed together on the skin for hydration, then M.A.C Face and Body Foundation with the M.A.C Studio Finish Concealer. Then we highlighted the entire face and eyes and used clear brow gel and lip conditioner.”
“So basically a lot of her clothing is quite detailed so she’s kept everything quite minimal with the hair and makeup. Really subtle and natural. Our makeup today is very wet, dewy and flawless. There’s not a lot of coverage with the foundation, brushed through brows, lips that look untouched with just a tint through them.”
