I love reading, and in 2016 I put a bit more effort into my reading life to diversify the kinds of books I read. I have to admit that reading while I was on maternity leave was about a thousand times easier than reading when I went back to work! I really have to be mindful about carving time out in my day (or usually my night) to make sure I’m fitting reading into my life.
So, in 2017 I thought I would give myself a little challenge to make sure I’m reading at least one book a month and stretching myself to read new and different things (instead of just the same types of things). I’ve written a list of ‘prompts’ for choosing a book, with a total of 12 for the year. I picked 12 because it’s one book a month and, although I hope to read more than that this year, I want 12 to be the minimum and I still want the freedom to choose extra books on a whim!
You can print off the list above, save it to Pinterest or share the image below to Instagram if you want an easy reference for the prompts. I think they are fairly broad and should still allow for a lot of flexibility in what I choose to read over the course of the next year as well as challenging myself to get out of my book comfort zone a little, and I’m hoping that they get you excited for reading in 2017 too!
If you’d like to play along, you can use the hashtag #LNFreadingchallenge on Instagram so I can see what you’ve chosen for the prompts! I love getting recommendations for new books to read and I think having a little group playing along with this challenge will help fill my ‘to be read’ list for 2017 and beyond.
I’ll check in across the year here on the blog to let you know what books I’ve chosen and what I thought of them. Be sure to follow along with the #LNFreadingchallenge hashtag on Instagram (or my account @lauren.lately) to see which books I choose before I post about them here!
Let me know if you’ll be playing along as well! I’d love to see some of you joining me in this reading challenge in 2017!
You can share the image below on Instagram if you’ll be playing along, and hopefully some of your friends will play along for a little reading challenge over the next year too!
I hope you join me in this reading challenge in 2017! I think it’ll be fun and I’d love to see what books you choose for these 12 prompts.
